Arthritis can be a terrible task master – so exacting and demanding that you can easily lose confidence in your ability to ever be free of arthritis in your lifetime. You try a new treatment here, a recommended therapy there and even a few supplements thrown in for good measure. But NOTHING…nothing works for very long. Does it? Nothing you do or think brings any lasting degree of relief.
If you’ve had rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis I’ll bet you’ve tried everything under the sun to get a handle on your condition. And I’ll further wager you’ve been doing this for quite some time. But to no avail. So, what’s the deal here? What’s this post about? The deal, my friend, is and always has been YOUR MIND.
It really doesn’t matter what health programs you embrace or special exercises you do or which low-acid diets you try in your desperate quest to reverse your arthritis or at least reduce the constant pain and discomfort. Until you develop and maintain the right mindset to deal with your affliction, you will never free yourself of its powerful talons. Until you understand how the mind influences every physiological function and condition, you’ll continue groping around in a closed, dark room for answers that are somewhere out in the hall.
But you’ve tried everything, I hear you saying. This is what you know…what you’ve grown accustomed to doing, even if it was counterproductive to your recovery and wellness. What else can you do? Where else can you turn to for help? Well, let me tell you something. This was MY dialogue, MY self doubt and self talk for a long time. This was my cross to bear until someone showed me a ray of hope and taught me a simple but powerful mental trick that gave me the courage and self confidence to kick my rheumatoid arthritis and get on with my life.
If you have a few more minutes to spare, and if you’re not in too much of a hurry, I’ll share with you what one of my wisest mentors once told me about training the mind to do just about anything. In my case, it was to overcome my lack of confidence that I deserved to be and could be well and completely free of arthritis, once and for all.
The older gentleman knew I had a pronounced lack of confidence when it came to doing anything constructive to deal with my arthritis. He told me there were ideas and suggestions he could share with me about how to reverse arthritis but he said I needed a mental overhaul first – a brain colonic to flush out the mental and emotional garbage that was keeping me from being free of disease. I figured I had little to lose and my pain and discomfort were growing exponentially by the day. So, I said why not.
What follows next is basically what he told me.
“Each day, for 2 months, give yourself three specific tasks to carry out each day. Be sure they are tasks you know you can complete without problem – such as telling yourself you will read a few pages of a book, or say a prayer each day at a certain time, no matter what. Then you MUST do each task without fail, each day. If you do this willfully for 2 months you will notice your ability and confidence to carry out given tasks will quickly and greatly improve. This is a fast way to build confidence.
This exercise will help you begin reprogramming yourself to look upon any small or big task as an invitation to accomplishment and achievement instead of a threatening challenge. Too often, when we are ill, the smallest tasks can be overwhelming when taken as a whole. However, when we learn to break down each day into small, doable things, we begin to build confidence in our ability to handle just about anything as long as we remember to break down large jobs and challenges into small executable functions.
Tackling arthritis all at once is a lot for anyone to take on. But when we analyze what it is and determine where the problem lies and what it takes, daily, to reverse this monster, then we go a long way toward setting up the right circumstance where our efforts can meet with success.
Once we can get the mind believing and knowing the body can and should be clean, healthy and fully functional in order that life’s plans and purposes can work through our being, then magical things can happen for us.
When you build confidence about accomplishing certain easy tasks you will be amazed at how this naturally carries over into other areas of your life. The level of confidence you develop in carrying out simple tasks daily, without fail, will help you tackle the much larger effort required to overcome arthritis.
Why is this? Simple. Your mind will be in the habit of you executing tasks without hesitation and without fail. This built-in quality can now be used for other areas of endeavor. The mind knows only that you have now become very good at doing what you set out to do. It is not particular about the size or difficulty of the task. Do you see how this can work for you?
The mind has no reason to believe you will not follow through on ANY task put before you, since you have now become so good at executing tasks. This really works and is especially helpful in building the confidence and fearlessness that you must have to reverse a condition such as arthritis.
This is a good way to build the habit of getting things done, no ifs, ands or buts. The mind likes practice, regularity and routine. This will help your concentration and tenacity when you need the inner resolve to embrace a biologically friendly program to lessen and eventually reverse arthritis or any other rheumatic disorder.
There may be days when you’ll want to quit and walk away from your healing process, but this mental training will help you get back on track time after time. It won’t let you down when you need it most. Make no mistake; regardless of what you decide to pursue as a way to overcome your illness, you WILL need strong resolve and determination to be successful in that endeavor.
This simple mental exercise can help you build the courage and level of resolve you will need. This is the greatest thing I can tell you about confronting and dealing successfully with any illness or other great challenge in your life. If you are prepared in mind your body will follow. You WILL succeed.
While you are healing, when you experience arthritic pain and discomfort, quickly engage your mind and, if possible, your body in meaningful pursuits. Even if it’s only reading an engaging passage in a book, watching an enjoyable television program or doing some sort of physical exercise or other movement. This is to set in your mind the attitude and assurance that under NO circumstances will arthritis or ANY passing ailment incapacitate you and leave you crying out in helpless despair. You WILL live your life by YOUR specifications and dictates – not by that of any disease.
Arthritis will not control you in any way. With a strong will and a clean, rested, functional and well-fed body you will always be in control of your life. Your mind and body belong to you – not to any illness. This is your life and your body and only you are in control of your body, its health and its functions. If you train your mind through the daily exercise, you’ll soon have little trouble mustering the will, perseverance and courage to follow an intelligent nature cure program to take care of arthritis.
Be sure your mind and emotional positioning are set in place before you attempt to defeat a monster as fearful and imposing as arthritis. With the right mindset and sufficient courage you’ll find that the arresting and overcoming of arthritis is a doable feat that you go about one day at a time until it becomes second nature to you. With the right lifestyle changes, dietary enhancements and renewed mindset, you’ll soon be living a joyful life free of disease and sadness.”
This advice has helped me and many of my arthritic patients and readers over the years. Perhaps it can be of some utility for you or a loved one as well. Live joyfully. Visit often.
